The City Museum of Novi Sad

City Museum of Novi Sad is a museum of complex type dedicated to collecting, preservation, presentation and interpretation of multilayer and multinational cultural heritage of the area of Novi Sad and the areas that gravitate to it.

Respecting the principles modern museological practice and following modern scientific tendencies, experts of the City Museum of Novi Sad have been creating safe conditions for protection of cultural artefacts, whose presentation, as a kind of media, enable an objective interpretation of the facts.

In accordance with its social responsibility the City Museum of Novi Sad creates and realizes its programs with the intention to allow widest audience to perceive the segments of the cultural and historical heritage and to create individual knowledge about it.
 
Following this approach, the City Museum of Novi Sad becomes the meeting point of different ideas, a place of intercultural dialogue and the most diverse cultural experiences.
 
For more than 50 years of existence the City Museum of Novi Sad has collected and conserved over 60 thousand items that represent material evidences of the life of its earliest inhabitants, the turbulent historical events, the economic and social development of the city, the culture of habitation, the aesthetic principles and artistic expressions of the population of Novi Sad .

Part of the items from the rich museum collection is presented to public within  permanent exibitions in the main building and annexes, as well as through the organization of thematic exhibitions. Besides exhibition activities, the Museum organizes other types of events, such as festival of documentary and scientific films, book promotions, creative workshops for the youngest citizens, etc., with the aim of enriching the cultural offer of the City of Novi Sad.

A bowl with blue glass inset is a German product of the late 19th century. Belongs to the species called Dutch silver, a lot of cheap mass production, which was the standard way of copying old baroque and rococo decorative shapes. This bowl was usually standing in civil showrooms as representative decorative detail.

A pair of Single wing wardrobes has the highlighted eclectic elements that are specifically expressed in the applicable carving. Spirals and stylized vines with flowers and leaves are set on all visible surfaces, and in their preparation, machine processing has also been used. Elegant table sewing tablein Bull (Boulle) style is made of lacquering wood. For its decoration the bronze hinges and marquetry have been used , as well as multi-colored nacrous tiles, incrustated in the upper panel and sides. This piece is purchased in the late 19th century in Italy for adulthood of Danica Savic, daughter of Mita Savic, Novi Sad innkeeper and trader, former owner of the restaurant "Bela ladja."

A standing lamp

Description: 
A standing lamp with a sirm and painted screen was developed in France in the late 19th century. The lampshade is made of silk and gold lace, screen painted with oil paint, and bonds designed by chasing bronze on the basis of mahogany wood. Although it has been adapted for the use of electricity, the form and materials of which the lamp is designed, indicate commitment to the wealthy middle class aristocratic forms of the 18th century.

Description: 
Single dresser comes from the house of Dimitrije Savic, Novi Sad merchant and innkeeper. It is a French work of the seventh decade of the 19th century, in the style of Boulle or so. Napoleon III. Dresser is shackled with bronze applications and inlaid nacre, with the upper plate made of dark marble, which was unusual for this kind of furniture. It was purchased in in Budapest in the late 19th century and probably ship delivered in Novi Sad.

"Neven" society panel

Description: 
One of the most interesting objects in the collection of items related to the musical life of Novi Sad is a jubilee panel of artisan Serbian Singing Society "Neven". Made in 1925, on the occasion of celebrating the patron saint of society, in Novi Sad engraver's shop "Papirplastika". Metal badges with the names of the members of the society hanging on a wooden base and wittily arranged in the shape of a lyre and laurel branches.
