The Czardas princess is a very well known and a very popular operetta. Statistically, not a single minute passes without an aria from this operetta being heard, on a stage, TV broadcast, radio or in a movie somewhere around the globe. One might say that the woven around a seemingly hopeless love between a cabaret star Silva Verecke and Prince Edwin Lipert - Vajlešajma - perhaps even banal. In this nostalgic operetta Love conquers all , including the opposition of parents , moreover , even grumpy Count Boniface finds his life companion in the person of the Countess Stasi , Edwin's previously betrothed, chosen by his parents. Libretto by Leo Stein and Bela Jenbach  was completed in the spring 1914 , but - due to the outbreak of war - only a year later Kalman started composing music. Making use of all inventions, all the tricks of Budapest Opera House , Kalman created a true potpourri of spicy  Parisian chanson , Viennese waltzes and old styled Pest gypsy music. The essence was to dance. And it's danse macabre - "dance of the dead" of the Monarchy. The Czardas much seems like a parody , through the unreal world that permeates the entire Kalman's play. The Premiere  of Czardas was in Vienna on 17 November in 1915, at the " Johann Strauss Theater ," and in November 1916, the month in which the Emperor Franz Joseph died , it was played in the Budapest Opera House. In the midst of war , Czardas was played by both belligerents. Kalman , was celebrated on both sides of the front! Operetta was soon a planetary scale success, plays  all over the world , from Sweden to the United States. As written by a former Viennese critic : " The whole world is rip-roaring two things: the rumble of cannons on the European fronts , and the success of Czardas " . ( ... ) - In a letter to his publisher, Imre Kalman,  the famous operetta composer says : " ... and I was so entirely devoted towards cheerful music, because it was always grateful that I figured it so seriously ! " - Czardas premiered in Vienna in 1915, next year in November in Budapest , and at the beginning of February in 1917. was carried out 100 repetitions , while in Vienna had already been performed more than 400 shows. - Only during the 1917. operetta Czardas was performed around the world , 12,000 times .
